College Knowledge: Plenty of help if you know where to look

Time to Check Your Mid-Term Grades
In many cases, you should now be able to see your mid-term grades on WebAdvisor. In each course you will receive an S or U. The S means that you are making satisfactory progress in your course. If you get a U, the professor is concerned about some or all elements of progress in that course.

Often students find that midterm grades could reflect what their end-of-term grades will be. If you find yourself with multiple U grades in your program it is usually time to seek out some assistance, if you haven't already done so. When you know you are struggling in a course, a great place to start is with the professor. They can usually point you in the right direction. If you are struggling with several courses make an appointment to see your student success advisor or program coordinator.

If you act now, you can often turn around a poor semester start. There are a number of students who struggle at the beginning of the semester ... you are not alone. There are resources and people willing to help and support you.

Personal Research Coaching at the Library
Are you starting to panic about that end-of-term paper or an assignment coming due soon? Have you started? Do you even know where to start? Perhaps what you need is a little research assistance from the library.

Fanshawe's Library & Media Services offers many ways to help you get the information you're looking for. You could try using the lime-green AskOn button on the Virtual Library website to chat live with a librarian to get reference help. Or, you could come in person and talk to someone in the Library Research & Data Services team — it's actually their job to help you find ways to answer your questions. You could even ask a librarian for specific research help while you're using the F2005 computer lab.

Here's the best part: for those students looking for additional focused time with a librarian, call 519-452-4275 to set up an appointment for some intensive one-onone research guidance.

Don't let your marks suffer because you didn't know where to start. Make use of Fanshawe's resources online, by phone or in person and learn some valuable information literacy skills while you do it! Remember, all library staff members are here to provide assistance to all students. Whether you're looking for just-in-time assistance or still-got-plenty-oftime assistance, Library & Media Services is here to help!
