Students have much to look forward to this semester

Hey Fanshawe,

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday break. It really wasn't long enough, but the earlier we get back, the earlier we can finish the semester and be one step closer to what we're striving for, be it a career or entry into another program. We also had a new intake of students at Fanshawe, so I'd like to formally say welcome to Fanshawe to all of our new students!

We just got back into the office last week so there isn't much to report until we get the ball rolling again. We have booked our winter concert, though! On January 26, Bedouin Soundclash will be hitting the stage in Forwell Hall to deliver an unforgettable night of music and warmth. It's something you'll definitely appreciate during these cold winter months. Speaking of the cold, I'm sure a lot of you were home for the holidays and realized that London is really the only major city that's been swamped with this much snow. Over the break I traveled to Montreal, and even they have less snow than we do! The worst thing about that, in my opinion, is the sickness going around. Make sure to take care of yourself, eat right, rest well and wash your hands! There's nothing more defeating than having to do work with a cold or the flu, or having to catch up on work later because of it.

We've also got our Charity Ball plans under way. Every year we hold a semi-formal event in the Student Centre to help out a charitable organization, and this year we are staying close to home and supporting the Sharing Shop. If you didn't know, the Sharing Shop is located in B Building and it's a place for students who are a little less fortunate financially to receive food, books, clothing, hygienic products and more. The Shop works off of volunteer support and donations from the Fanshawe College community. It's a sad fact that many students, not just at Fanshawe but in the entire education system in Ontario, are living below the poverty line, and that's where the Sharing Shop can make a difference for our students. Tickets for the Charity Ball are available now at the Biz Booth, and it takes place on Saturday, February 5 at 9 p.m.

Lastly, I'd really like to share how excited I am for the rest of this school year. It's been a great year all around for the Fanshawe community, and I'm very interested to see where the rest of the school year takes us. I have no doubt that it'll keep getting better and better.
