Fanshawe student attacked in downtown area

A female Fanshawe student was assaulted and robbed while walking home from work on January 18.

"I had my headphones in so I couldn't really hear," said Kelly (not her real name). "They just came up from behind me, my left side. They threw me to the ground. They were trying to get my purse. They ended up getting some belongings: debit card, money and mittens. I still had my purse, because it was a wraparound purse."

After punching and kicking her, the two assailants fled the scene. The incident took place around midnight on Piccadilly Street, just off of Richmond.

"I didn't really have time to think about it until I got back to my friend's house," said Kelly. "I sat down and then I started feeling everything that was hurting. Up until that point, I didn't think anything was wrong with me."

Her friends took her to the hospital after Kelly started feeling sick and showing signs of a concussion. X-rays at the hospital showed that Kelly had a dislocated neck and torn tendons.

Kelly did not report the incident to the police. "I literally don't have a minute out of my day to follow through with what could possibly be followed through. I know that once I say it, I'm 100 per cent involved."
