Answering Veenema

Dear Editor:

Twice, in the last two articles by Michael Veenema, in Interrobang titled "Are we doomed?" January 17, 2011, and "Damned, but maybe not," January 24, 2011, he asks the question, "Are we doomed?" A simple reply is no.

Veenema seems to appreciate spiritual matters, and this may not be a new idea for him. 1 John 5:19 tells us that the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one. At first glance, it would seem with all of the economic problems and environmental damage, that we as a human race may be damned.

The foretelling of these events was laid out before us, almost 2,000 years ago in Matthew 24:3-14 and 2 Timothy 3:1-5. These things must happen, that is why the Messiah taught us to pray for God's kingdom to come. And once it does arrive, on Earth, as we were taught to pray, then Revelation 11:18 and Revelation 21:3-4 will be fulfilled. Those scriptures tell us, "He will bring to ruin those ruining the Earth," and "He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more."

So, are we doomed, or damned? Well, 1 John 2:17 tells us, "He that does the will of God remains forever."
