Fanshawe men's basketball team keeps their heads up

Third-year forward Andy Campbell led the Falcons to victory against the Lambton Lions on January 27, scoring 21 of the Falcons' 81 points.

The Falcons were a well-oiled machine that night, with other big scorers including third-year guard Jordan Dixon with 18 points, Matthew Tkaczyk with 13 points and Jesse Duguay with 11 points.

As the provincials and nationals are rapidly approaching, the Fanshawe men's basketball team is practicing their hearts out.

"We just need to play together," said forward Palve Beric. "We don't want to get fancy out there and complicate things. We don't want to get over-confident, because we tend to play badly against weaker teams and if we do that I think we can make it to provincials."

This week, the team takes on the St. Clair Saints. The Saints should be easy to beat, as they only have a 2-9 record. The Falcons have an 8-5 record.

Guard Andrew Smith said he has faith in the team. "We have a good chance at making it to the provincials," he added.

If the men want to make it to the playoffs and provincials, they are going to have to play well over the next few weeks. Though the team stumbled through a rough patch a few weeks ago, they're quickly returning to form.

Fanshawe is in the fifth place in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association west division. Algoma College, located in Sault Ste. Marie, is hosting the provincial championships from March 3 to 5. Durham College in Oshawa is hosting the Canadian Colleges Athletic Associaton national championship from March 17 to 19.

The men's basketball team has their next home game on Friday, February 11 at 8:00 p.m. against the Algoma Thunderbirds.
