Falcon men's basketball team gearing up for playoffs

As the season is coming to an end, the Fanshawe men's basketball team is standing at a 12-5 record.

The team has only one game left in the season before they head to the playoffs. "We definitely worked hard this year, and the coach worked us hard this year," said guard Jordan Dixon.

On February 11, the men had a game against Algoma College, and won with a final score of 64-57. It was a thrilling game, with 23 points being scored by forward Matt Tkaczyk, 16 points and eight rebounds by forward Andrew Campbell and 15 points by Dixon.

"We've got to win every game to make it to the provincials," said Dixon. "Every game is going to be crucial."

On February 12, the men had a game against Sault Saint Marie. The Falcons came out ahead with 73-65. Tkaczyk scored 27 points, Campbell scored 19 points, Dixon scored 15 points, centre Darcy Young had 14 rebounds and forward Gareth Edwards had 12 rebounds.

The team had a goal at the beginning of the year to try to make it to nationals. They still have a chance at the provincials.

"This year would have been better if we were undefeated, but overall I think we did pretty well," said Dixon.

The men begin the playoffs very soon, and how well they do in the playoffs will determine if they make it to the provincials and then on to nationals.

The team's final game before the playoffs is on February 22 at 8 p.m. at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario.
