Falcons get 'two' cracks at Sheridan

The women's basketball team has only one regular season game left against the unbeaten Sheridan Bruins on Tuesday, February 22.

Before they take on the Bruins, they must face Seneca during an exhibition game.

Team captain Kaitlind Dutrizac said, "Playing a top team in the East like Seneca will help us prepare for Sheridan ... It's like getting two chances to beat Sheridan."

Fanshawe has not yet played Seneca this year. Seneca is looking likely to land the top spot in the Eastern Conference, so this will be a good test for the women as they get prepared for the playoffs.

Dutrizac, who is in her fourth and final year at Fanshawe, said, "This year has been a learning experience for the team. We are young and they will only get better."

As the team prepares for their game against the Bruins, Dutrizac said, "We will show different defences and will out-rebound them."

The Sheridan Bruins will host the Falcons on February 22, and they will be seeing a vastly improved team from the one that played them at Fanshawe a couple months ago. According to head coach Matt White, "We have been playing playoff-like basketball for a little while now."

The Falcons currently hold down the sixth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, and will more than likely play a crossover game on the road against Georgian College.

The women have only had two wins since the Christmas break. The team has practiced hard and have progressed drastically. They are still looking ahead to provincials, which they will get a chance to participate in if they are able to win their crossover game.

"They have a winning record. They must be doing something right," said White, regarding the potential match-up with Georgian.

The Falcons have another two weeks of practice before their playoff crossover and will look to improve both offensively and defensively.
