When you get the privilege of seeing a musician or band perform before they start winning Grammys and headlining world tours, you become a member of that elite club that gets to say "I knew about them years ago." Well, I recently became a member of one of these little clubs, because someday I'll get to say, "I knew Genevieve Fisher."

Keep on Livin' is a fundraising event for the Canadian Liver Foundation being held at 7 p.m. on March 15 at the Out Back Shack. London-based rising country singer Genevieve Fisher will be launching her first album, Without Borders.

Foregoing the Bieber-like path of many young pop stars, 18-yearold Fisher is blazing her own trail as a country singer. With a sound that is pure and true to the roots of country, she credited artists like Patsy Cline as her musical inspiration. "Growing up, my grandparents always used to listen to country, so I was always exposed to it," said Fisher. "It's always been something that I loved."

This past October, Fisher followed in the footsteps of many country greats and went to Nashville to record her album. Describing her trip as a whirlwind, this was clearly one of the greatest experiences of her life so far.

Her six-song EP features a song written by famous country songwriter Jeffrey Steele, who has written songs for artists like Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts. "It was definitely a boost of confidence knowing that he liked the sound of my voice and was willing to send me a song," said Fisher.

Her first single, Keep On, written by herself and her band's guitar player Joe Grasso, is currently being played at over 25 radio stations across Canada, and is sitting at number 60 nationally on the country music charts. This past June, Fisher became the youngest artist to receive an award at the London Music Awards, winning for Most Popular Country Artist. She has also had the opportunity to open twice for two-time Juno nominee Crystal Shawanda.

One thing that is most impressive about this sweet-natured singer is her selflessness. Fisher has always made a point of volunteering her time for various fundraising events, including Native community events, Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and children's hospitals. "Even growing up, I was always asked to do performances for charity… I can't say no," said Fisher.

At this event, Fisher and her band will be performing songs from her album, as well as a few covers. This all-ages event will also feature guest performer Justin Plet, and is being emceed by BX93's Chris Harding.
