Teeing off for Heart and Stroke

"In 2010, I hit golf balls for eight straight hours to raise funds for the London Anti-Bullying Coalition," said golf journalist Jeffrey Reed. "It was one of the proudest moments of my life. Now, I look forward to this new challenge of establishing a LondonOntarioGolf.com legacy benefiting the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario."

LondonOntarioGolf.com announced its first annual fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation on February 18 — the website's seventh birthday. The event will be held June 24 and 25 at Green Par Golf Driving Range on Wellington Road South in London.

The event will start at Jim Bob Ray's on Richmond Street downtown on the evening of June 24. The night will include musical entertainment, a silent auction and a 50-50 draw, food, mingling and, of course, the infamous putting contest.

The night of great entertainment is followed by a golf marathon at Green Par Golf. Reed and other celebrities from local golf and entertainment industries will be hitting some balls, all to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

Reed said he is thrilled to be the spokesperson for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. "It was always my intention to create a legacy with LondonOntarioGolf.com. Recognition by the Golf Journalists Association of Canada provides our team with a platform to promote our fundraiser. And by creating the London Ontario Golf Heart Award, we hope this will bring further attention to the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, and to recognizing the warning signs of heart disease and strokes."

The London Ontario Golf Heart Award will be given annually to a member of the local golf community who "goes the extra yard in growing the game of golf," said Reed. The award recipient selected by the editorial team at LondonOntarioGolf.com will be announced at the fundraiser on June 24.

"Seven years ago, when we teed up LondonOntarioGolf.com, it was my intention to give back to the community," said Reed. "The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario is a cause close to my own heart. My father survived a heart attack and a stroke suffered in 2004, and my grandfather died after suffering a stroke in 1998. A few years ago, I suffered a ministroke - a transient ischemic attack."

The Heart and Stroke Foundation is a volunteer-based charity which raises money to eliminate heart disease and strokes. The organization is involved with the advancement of research to promote healthy living.
