The Heel Turn: What's "The Rock" cooking?

Monday Night RAW has become electrified as the guest host for Wrestlemania was revealed. It turned out to be none other than the People's Champ, The Rock!

For a full minute, the fans in Anaheim were kept in suspense, as the lights went dark in the arena building up to the moment. Then The Rock's entrance theme started up and out walked the Great One, to a monumental reaction from the audience that was absolutely off the charts. For seven long years the fans have been awaiting The Rock's return, and they didn't fail to show their excitement. The People's Champ delivered a promo that went for nearly a half hour, yet it never once was boring. It was clear that he has not lost his place as perhaps the most entertaining speaker in the history of the WWE. The Rock thanked the fans for supporting his career decisions and apologized for being away from wrestling for so long. He cracked a joke about how Vince McMahon had originally planned for Justin Bieber to host Wrestlemania, but he called Vince and talked him out of it.

Michael Cole interrupted the amazing promo at one point, when he received another one of those emails from the anonymous General Manager. Cole attempted to read the email, only to have The Rock put the heel announcer in his place by telling him to know his role and shut his mouth. The Rock also had something to say about the current landscape of the WWE, specifically the Miz and John Cena. According to him, the Miz was not awesome, but actually sucked. The WWE's golden boy Cena got verbally savaged by The Rock as well, when he made fun of everything from Cena's "You can't see me" hand wave, to Cena's ring attire of brightly coloured t-shirts. It's kind of surprising that the company would allow the man they've put everything behind to be insulted like that, but perhaps it's a sign that they realize Cena shouldn't be carrying the WWE Universe all by himself. The Rock promised that he would see both Miz and Cena at Wrestlemania, which brings the question of just how involved he will be in the biggest event of the year? Will he merely be hosting, or will he actually get physically involved in some matches? He looks to be in the best shape of his life, and many, many fans, myself included, would love to see The Rock knock Cena down a peg or two. That would truly be an electrifying Wrestlemania moment.

Since The Rock's debut, the banter has intensified further with Cena calling out The Rock, and then The Rock re-upping in Buffalo via a "live" satellite feed. It seems that the WWE would like to push the idea that The Rock is going to get physical with Cena at some point, whether it's at Wrestlemania or before. Lost in the shuffle of traded barbs is The Miz. I'm certainly hoping the next time The Rock speaks that Miz gets in the crosshairs.

One thing is for sure, wrestling has gotten a whole lot more interesting.
