Get in the SAC
This month, the Fanshawe
Student Union is inviting students
to hop in the SAC with them!
Nominations opened for the
Student Administrative Council
election on August 29 and will
close Friday, September 16 at 4
p.m.
The SAC consists of student representatives from each academic division and the surrounding area campuses. SAC reps are responsible for reporting all meeting proceedings to their class representatives as well as bringing up any concerns students may have in the bi-weekly SAC meetings.
FSU President Veronica Barahona also suggested that SAC representatives meet once a month with their class reps. "Some people in the past have only had one meeting per semester, but I feel like you need more," she said. "In the past, there hasn't been a lot of accountability for SAC reps, which is fine, we've still had some really great reps," but this year, Barahona has a new plan for SAC reps.
As part of her campaign platform, Barahona promised to focus on Fanshawe's Sharing Shop, and she's sticking to it. As part of SAC, reps will be working an hour per week at the Sharing Shop, the student volunteer-run food bank and clothing exchange on campus.
Barahona said that the FSU Executive Council will also be volunteering their time at the Sharing Shop. "This will help out students so much here. Not everything's gonna be perfect, but I want to leave a bit of a legacy and work together with the Sharing Shop and see how we can help give back." SAC reps that do volunteer will be given an honorarium at the end of each semester.
Nominees can pick up a nomination package at the FSU office or download it online, and must collect a certain number of signatures from classmates in order to run in the election. Campaigning begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20 and ends at 4 p.m. on Monday, September 26.
Voting polls will be set up on campus from Tuesday, September 27 at 9 a.m. until Wednesday. September 28 at 4 p.m. Students can also vote online on FanshaweOnline. Students vote within their program for their SAC rep, but students campus-wide will be able to vote for the Vice- President of Athletics and Residence Life position at this time.
