Offering his refreshing style of comedy, Frankie "Trixx" Agyemang is headlining the Free Comedy Night at the Out Back Shack on September 14.

For such a successful talent, Trixx took an interesting path to becoming a comedian. "I was a DJ at first, and through DJing I got into radio, and then from there I was on Video On Trial," the popular MuchMusic show where comedians poke fun at music videos. "I was always a joker and people kept telling me I should get into stand up." So that's exactly what he did.

Taking a page from the book of his favourite comedians, Trixx's comedic style stands out from the offensive observations made by many comedians of his generation. Trixx said he believes it is important that comedians have something to say, a quality he sees in Eddie Murphy. "He wasn't afraid to say what he wanted to say … he's an amazing performer."

Bill Cosby also proved to be a large influence on Trixx's comedic style. "I've always admired him and his career … the way he could tell a story for two hours and make it entertaining." When watching Trixx perform, this entertaining story-telling quality is visible. "I'm pretty real and when I say real, it's real-life situations ... I try to make it as relatable as possible ... in-your-face, but not vulgar and not offensive. I don't target groups." Trixx applies his witty and hilarious commentary on situations we can all relate to, like annoying people at bus stops and growing up in the '80s.

Trixx has carved out a place for himself in the world of comedy, opening for big names like Aries Spears and Sugar Sammy, and winning the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities Comedian of the Year award for 2011.

He just released his DVD, Iceman, and plans on spending the foreseeable future travelling across the country promoting it.

September 14's Free Comedy Night featuring Trixx and Alan Pavone starts at 9 p.m. This event is all-ages for people with student cards and 19-plus for non-students. For more information, visit fsu.ca/events and check out Trixx's website trixxworld.com.
