Every sport seems to have their own thing that fans use to geek out. Football is no different. A new season brings new toys for soccer fans to drool over.

The FIFA video game series by EA Sports is one of the most popular game series in the world. The series continues to improve on itself, and that's no different with this year's newest release, FIFA 12. The new edition includes a groundbreaking defensive system. Players of previous titles were bound to just hold down the 'Standing Tackle' button and watch their defender hurtle towards the ball, but no longer is it that simple. Players now must manually run and jockey with the ball carrier and press the standing tackle to stick out a leg at the ball.

Along with slight tweaks to offensive play, the newest edition is much more difficult than previous ones. When playing the AI, early players will have a rude awaking: this game is hard. Many experienced FIFA players have been left to scale their difficulty levels back a few as the AI's defence is ruthless and its attack is also much more capable. However, the game offers new tools you can use to beat defenders, such as precision dribbling. Things like the new impact engine and dynamic presentation prove to be neat little additions that keep this series relevant and entertaining year after year.

The second video game for soccer geeks this fall is Football Manager 2012, the newest instalment from Sports Interactive. If any player of the far more popular FIFA series found themselves playing the 'Manager Mode' to no end, this is the game for you. In FM, you play as the manager of a team and use all tools at your disposal to create a winning side, doing everything from team talks to tactics to buying and selling players. And with just about any league in the world available, it's the most enjoyable — and geeky — game out there for football fans.

To the current Football Manager players, the newest edition truly doesn't disappoint. The layout has seen some major improvements since last year's version. In short, the new layout allows you to make educated decisions about your team quickly and easily through a number of different ways. More emphasis is made on the star system to grade ability and potential, as most of it is made available without having to go to each players scouting reports. The game also features a system that allows a vast amount of information per page by your resolution, so you will always have as much info as you need. For new players, the brand new tutorial has received plenty of praise, and will easily help you through how to play. A new depth chart system and a completely revamped team talk structure give this game an update to the devoted and an easy pick-up-andplay value for newer gamers to the series.

With consistent updates to these already incredible series, these two tools for soccer fans should be enough to geek out on in between games.
