On November 20, football fans tuned in with intrigue as many watched their first Major League Soccer final. The game featured the best team in the regular season, and arguably the best side MLS has ever fielded: the Los Angeles Galaxy versus the Houston Dynamo. L.A. had their 'big three' designated players - Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan and David Beckham - and few people chose to bet against them.

The first half yielded very few opportunities for both teams. Houston had considerable control of their game, as we saw the Dynamo defense do what they could. On their own, the Houston back four is one of the best in the league. Andre Hainault is a player that can have huge influence on the right side. Unfortunately, Donovan and Sean Franklin behind him kept great influence through attacking movements on that side of the pitch. I was impressed with Franklin's movements as they allowed Donovan to move into more attacking positions like the play that generated the only goal in the match. Adam Moffat provided some incredible cover, as well as holding abilities in the first and second half. Heading into the game, Brian Ching was a player that would be crucial in a Houston win, as he saw little service or chances to come in the first half. As for the other side, Galaxy striker Adam Cristman wasted several chances early. His quality was poor on several headers. Chances that regular starter Chad Barrett could have finished if it wasn't for his injury.

L.A.'s quality was even more at play in the second half. Cristman got tucked underneath Irish international Robbie Keane, as the starstudded Galaxy midfield started to put together some inspiring stuff until all three DPs, in something out of fiction, connected to put the L.A. Galaxy on the board in the 72nd minute. Beckham laid off a pass to Keane who dropped it for Donovan, who placed a cheeky yet incredible finish. Houston had literally no options against all of the aforementioned threats, and you could see it in their play. They were missing MVP candidate Brad Davies, who was a playmaking force for the team in the earlier games against the likes of Sporting Kansas City. The Galaxy were simply too good in all facets of their play, and the score line eventually showed that with a 1-0 win for L.A.

Say what you will about Beckham and this stacked L.A. team, but you must appreciate their hustle and heart this season. Beckham tucked home 13 assists and two goals this year, and on many occasions showed he still had it. When Beckham was interviewed at the end of the game, it was a high point for me as a fan of this league. He showed true emotions from the win while many people mock the purpose of the cup itself. His contract is up at the end of this year, as much of the talk surrounded whether or not he would come back. But just like any player, he won the championship, and that might just be enough for him.
