Student business ideas showcased at Seed Your Startup

Check out what some very talented Fanshawe College and University of Western Ontario students are up to at the first annual Seed Your Startup event on April 12. The event takes place from 1:30 to 5 p.m. in the Mustang Lounge at UWO.

This business pitch competition, hosted by the Student Success Centre and BizInc., the student business incubator at Western University and Fanshawe College, encourages the transition from entrepreneurial ideas to formalized action plans. One student project will be awarded a $5,000 entrepreneurial grant and business advisory services so the student may pursue their proposal in London this summer.

Of the 60-plus business proposals that were submitted by current Western and Fanshawe students, five finalists have been selected to work closely with business advisors at BizInc. to refine their idea and polish their pitch for the final presentation. Finalists will compete in front of a panel of judges from the community at the Seed Your Startup event.

"After anticipating 20 proposals for this competition, we are overwhelmed with excitement by the response we received from students," said John Pollock, Director of BizInc. "Seed Your Startup is a great way to showcase London's entrepreneurial talent and let students know we're here to support and encourage their innovative ideas."

Seed Your Startup will showcase a variety of business proposals, from GameForge, software that enables users to create games and interactive content on tablet computers, to Simcoe View, a low altitude aerial photography and videography service specializing in radio controlled helicopter imagery.

Seed Your Startup 2012 is made possible by community sponsors Royal Bank of Canada, the Student Success Centre, University First Class Painters, Spriet Associates Engineers and Architects, Certified General Accountants and Sensidea Corporation.
