Fun and Fitness: Fun times at Open Rec Nights for students interested in activity

Open Recreation Night is now back in session for the 2012/13 school season! If you're new to the college or completely forgot what Open Rec Night is, it's a set schedule for open gymnasium time for late evening physical activity. Open Recreation Nights run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Activities include ball hockey, basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer and table tennis, and we've even added cricket to the mix if there are enough players to meet the demand. Other changes include a swipe-in system so that we can track how many people are participating, and to ensure everyone's safety based on the enforced "must be a student" policy. This season's most popular sports thus far include co-ed volleyball, basketball and floor hockey. However, the Athletics Department Staff will do their best to ensure all activities that students wish to play are incorporated within the three gyms. You'll also want to ensure you bring your student card to swipe in because the Athletics Department now draws for $20 gift cards to Kelseys at the end of each session.

It is important to keep in mind that there are always odd nights where Rec Night cannot be accommodated. This is due to school holidays, major varsity events and other academic events such as the Career Fair that take place in the gym. Be sure to check the weekly gymnasium schedules in the J building to ensure your desired night is open for action.

Now get over here and join us for some nighttime action!
