Fanshawe will be holding performances and serving food at this year's Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) Cultural Awareness Fair.

Fanshawe College is a large school that has many unique and various students. All of them with diverse cultures, values and spirits.

With that, the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) will be hosting a Cultural Awareness Fair titled ‘Show Off Your Culture'. It's an event meant to entertain and enjoy the different cultures at the school with song, dance and tricks from various backgrounds.

Andrew Waterworth, the FSU student life co-ordinator explained that Fanshawe College has a strong representation of multiple cultures among the student body. The international student program is also one of the many factors to the College's wide diversity of heritages.

Waterworth said that the fair is one way to showcase the multiculturalism that is strongly represented not only at Fanshawe but also in our country.

“Fanshawe itself is filled with many different cultures to begin with, as Canada is a very multicultural country,” Waterworth said. “I think that is one of our greatest strengths as a whole. It's definitely good to showcase where everyone comes from so people get an understanding of what people's backgrounds are and what influences them more heavily than other things.”

What was primarily performances last year, this year, ‘Show Off Your Culture' will also be adding a delicious portion to this year's event, where students will be able to taste the different flavours of culture.

Many types of cuisine will be available for students to savour from the backgrounds of many various places found world-wide.

With various culture clubs and groups from Fanshawe participating, such as the First Nations Centre and the Caribbean African Student Association (CASA), Waterworth said that they have a whole line up of unique cultural entertainment lined up for the event. Waterworth also encouraged even more of the culture oriented clubs and groups on the campus to join the day's fun.

Waterworth also mentioned that individual students who would like to show off their heritage should also not be afraid to sign up for the event.

“Even if there are students who want to participate who are not in a club, we will be more than happy to try to accommodate them,” Waterworth said.

‘Show Off Your Culture' will be a fun day of performances and food to celebrate the many cultures that walk the halls of Fanshawe.

The event is being held on Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Forwell Hall at the main London campus of the College.
