Interrobang has won third place for general excellence (college/university) and first place for best college/university newspaper website at the Better Newspapers Competition.
Interrobang has brought home the award for third place in general excellence (college/university paper) and first place for best college/university newspaper website from the 2021 Better Newspapers Competition (BNC) of the Ontario Community Newspapers Association (OCNA). This marks the first time Interrobang has won for best website, and the third year in a row that it has placed in the top three for general excellence.
The award criteria is based on a number of factors, including the quality of the newspaper’s front page, news, opinion, local sports sections, as well as presentation. Meanwhile, the best website award criteria is based on quality of content, ease of navigation and layout.
According to the OCNA, Interrobang won best website for being a “shining example of what a newspaper website could and should be.”
“The Interrobang shines in both mobile and desktop,” said judge David Patterson in the BNC Awards Booklet. “Great use of advertising and call-outs throughout the website that does not overwhelm the user or take away from the content. Lots to like about The Interrobang! This is a site I will come back to, if for nothing else but to read your fantastic downloadable print edition.”
For its general excellence award, the OCNA praised Interrobang’s “in-depth stories, excellent illustrations, and good photography.” It also noted that Interrobang included a wide range of stories.
Interrobang would like to thank its amazing team of creative designers and web developers who helped craft its new and improved website in August 2021. Additionally, thank you to every writer, reporter, illustrator, graphic designer and podcaster who contributed Interrobang’s third place general excellence win.
