Get outta town for the holidays

For those of you who are feeling adventurous this season, and want to experience the holidays in a foreign place, you are not alone.

‘Tis the season to celebrate and explore what this world has to offer. Here is a delightful mix of great December destinations guaranteed to get you in the holiday spirit and make it a memorable time.

If you are looking to get a little crazy for Christmas, no one throws a better party like New Orleans, and the holidays are no exception. As the city regains its full strength, New Orleans is a great destination as you will experience history, tragedy reborn, chaos and fun all in one place; guaranteed to be a memorable trip.

However if tropical is more your style, a great island at an amazing price that is often overlooked in South America is San Andres, Colombia. This island is heaven on earth, and the adventures are endless. From sunset cliff-diving to day trips out to Jonny Key, midnight horseback riding and even a visit to Cueva de Morgan (Captain Morgan's legendary Cave), San Andres is a destination for anyone to enjoy with a price tag just under $1000 — my personal favourite getaway.

If you want to visit a lot of different countries, experience many different cultures and get away from this side of the world for a while, touring Europe or even exploring Africa will leave you with a mind full of great memories, and a camera packed with postcard-like shots. This great escape is one that you can enjoy with your family or a few close friends, while simultaneously spending some serious time exploring another way of life.

If you want to get away, but are strapped for time and cash this year, local spots to retreat to can be just as fun. Rain or shine, Stratford, Ontario is a great romantic hot spot to spend the weekend. The town is so festive this time of year, with great plays and amazing dinning venues you can't go wrong. There are also great little shops to pick up that special something for that special someone on your list.

Also, heading a bit north can be a ton of fun, as skiing and snowboarding can leave you occupied all day or if you prefer, snuggling up in a lodge by a fire with hot chocolate is never a bad idea. From Collingwood to Blue Mountain, Horseshoe Valley up to Mont Tremblant, staying somewhat local is a ton of fun too.

So whatever you are in the mood for this season, grab some friends, convince your family, or escape solo and ring in the New Year right — and be sure to do it in style.
