As the seasons change, it’s normal to feel the need to refresh your closet with new outfits to wear. It can be expensive to do a complete 180 on your wardrobe every season but there are a few different ways to refresh your wardrobe without making your Savings Account sad!

1. The capsule closet

A capsule closet is made up of clothing items that are timeless and that can be paired with many different items. If you haven’t already been building your capsule closet, now is the time to do so (in moderation). A capsule wardrobe can include neutral colored clothing such as black, white, brown, and gray. With just one purchase contributing to your capsule closet, it should give you the feeling of a fresh start.

2. Declutter

Sometimes we have to let go of pieces that once served a purpose to you but no longer does. Letting go of clothing items starts to create room for new apparel that you can purchase with more intent and longevity. Decluttering can take time and it can be hard to say goodbye to pieces. However, I always find that this makes me feel as though I’m starting fresh with my wardrobe without losing everything!

3. Don’t be afraid to thrift

The thrifting scene in London has picked up over the years and can even be a fun activity to do with friends or your significant other. Thrifting is great when you’re not only on a small budget for new apparel but also if you want to find hidden quality pieces that you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for. The stigma around thrifting being unaccepted by society has faded tremendously as it’s become more and more popular.

4. Sell clothing

If shopping for even a couple of items is daunting on the finances, try to sell clothing online as this can always allow for shopping money to buy new or thrifted items for your closet. Using apps such as Depop, Facebook Marketplace, or even going into stores such as Plato’s Closet that buys used clothes from individuals, can be ways to earn some spending money on new apparel.

5. Shop smart and not wasteful

It’s never the intent that when you purchase items that it’s not going to get worn or go to waste so to speak. However, it can be easy to either bulk by when we see a good price or buy apparel out of excitement. This can be the cause of a lot of clothes that never get seen outside your wardrobe. When you start shopping for pieces to refresh your wardrobe, step back and think smartly in terms of how you would wear the item, if it’s something that will add value to your closet, and also how much you think you would wear the item.

6. Create a wishlist

Many stores usually have ways to pull customers in when it comes to new and sparkly inventory. This can be a big distraction when it comes to going into a store to buy a certain item and coming out with everything but the one thing you originally went there for. Assess your wardrobe after decluttering and create a wishlist of what you think would be a good buy for your closet. Creating a wishlist will keep you on track and give you something to look forward to.

You shouldn’t feel limited to express yourself through fashion because there’s not enough space in your closet or because you’re afraid it might break your bank account. Fashion is an expression that can be accomplished with your own sense of style and skills to help acquire apparel for your closet. Use the above six tools to help you refresh your wardrobe on a budget.
