Two seats missing from the SAC

Since February two members of the Student Advisory Council have resigned, leaving Human Services and General Studies students without a representative on council.

Caitlyn Yearwood, the representative from General Studies Division who also held the position during the 2005/06 school year, resigned via email at the February 20 meeting for personal reasons. While Human Services representative Chris Walker handed in his resignation written on a paper towel on February 23, according to FSU staff.

“It's unfortunate we had to have reps leave so close to the end of the year,” FSU President Christine Thomson said. “I wish them the best of luck in their studies.”

According to a mass email sent by Walker on February 16, 40 Human Services students signed a petition sighting they “do not feel that I (Walker) am suited for the position.”

“As a member of the FSU I have found many problems with it. I feel that individual opinions are not ‘welcome,' Walker wrote in the email. “There is a collective/sheep mentality [SIC] promoted. My opinions tend to lean away from corporatization and dictatorship, therefore I have had a lot of conflicts with the FSU.”

Thomson said she will need to consult the charter, but there will most likely be a by-election held at an upcoming SAC meeting, where interested candidates in the Human Services and General Studies Division can vie for the two positions.

There is also an opening in the Motive Technology Division if any students are interested in becoming a member of SAC. For more information on any of these opportunities please visit the FSU office in room SC2001 for more information.
