Free film night at Fanshawe

The FSU will be testing a new film program for Fanshawe students, especially the students in our two residences. The not-yet-to-DVD films will be shown for free in the Oasis dining area every other Tuesday night.

For the month of October the FSU will be showing two of the most popular summer feature films on a big 24-foot screen in the Oasis. The first film, to be shown at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, will be the Pixar Animation Studio surprise hit Ratatouille.

The second film, scheduled to screen in the Oasis on Tuesday, October 23, was the number one action blockbuster of the summer The Bourne Ultimatum starring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne.

Both films will be shown for free to students and the Oasis is open for food and drinks, in addition there will be fresh popcorn available for sale. The FSU will gauge the audience response and attendance for these two feature films and decide if they will continue the series until the end of the semester. Both films are being shown prior to release on DVD, and for public performance (that is showing the films for free) cost is around $300 per showing.

“This is a major expense for the FSU when you calculate the cost of renting the films, screens and projectors plus staffing for the film nights, our costs run about $450 per show,” said FSU Operations Manager, John b. Young. “We hope the students will support this concept of a free film series and if not it will be a interesting experiment.”
