Fun and Fitness: Classes offer great body and soul workouts

As expected, the gym is booming with new faces for obvious reasons. People are two-week-deep into their New Year's resolutions to get fit. Many people are completely lost with how to start and there's no shame in that, but the beautiful part is that there are many ways to go about it. However, every semester there seems to be a lot of confusion with what's offered aerobically at Fitness 101. I'm going to clear up any of this confusion by explaining what's in store for the winter semester.

Our aerobics classes are very popular amongst the student and faculty populations. Each semester, we do our very best to rearrange as well as implement new classes based on member feedback. The following is the January-May official list of available classes.

100% Cardio - Hi-low class for people of all fitness levels. Includes abs.

Quarters - A 15 minute segment of step, mixed impact, muscular strength and core.

Double Step & Sculpt - Cardio step intervals using dumbbells, tubing and weights.

NIA - Expressive barefooted dance/fitness blending many disciplines.

Pilates - Strengthening and stretching exercises in a balanced sequence.

Essential Pilates - Beginner Pilates class.

Spinning - Fourteen adjustable bikes available for this Tour de France workout.

Cardio Rock Bottom - Cardio combinations with lower body sculpting.

3D Workout - Unique three-dimensional strength and balance movements.

Awesome Intervals - Intense cardio combinations in interval methods.

Boot Camp - Alternating cardio and resistance exercises in circuit format.

Core Stability Training - Resist-a-ball only class.

Total Muscle — Variety of muscular strength and endurance exercises.

Yoga — Mind and body class utilizing focused breathing and concentration.

Essential Yoga — Beginner Yoga class.

Core on the Floor — Fifteen-minute ab class.

As you can see, there are a broad range of classes to suit different personalities and tastes. We sometimes hold specialty classes such as Hip Hop Cardio, Latin Dancing and Seductive Dance. Four of the listed classes (NIA, Yoga, Pilates, 3D Workout) are seven-week collective sessions, which means they are sign up on a first come, first serve basis; once you're in, you're in for the seven week ride, much like a classroom setting where you and your classmates progress together.

For any guys “too cool” for aerobics classes, you fellas may want to rethink your strategy. I personally teach the abs class, and believe me, aerobics are a great way to stay lean and meet a ridiculous amount of ladies at the same time.

The aerobics classes vary throughout the week as we try our best to accommodate a wide variety of timeslots for members. Your best bet is to come by and grab a schedule to see what classes fall on what dates and times. Better yet, come sign up for a semester membership and get your ass in gear now!
