Around the Ring: Early bonanza

I'm back and man, oh man, has wrestling actually been awesome the last two weeks. Let's break down SOME of the action.

TNA's last PPV, “Final Resolution,” was pretty good. I think the match of the night actually went to Awesome Kong vs. Gail Kim. These two have just made WWE's Diva's and their contests looked like little girls having slap fights in the playground. Actually, I think the Knockout match gave some of the guys over in WWE (and some in TNA) a run for their money. This no-DQ match had the ladies delivering amazing spots, shots and fighting through the crowd. I really liked how at the end of the match, Kim won by using Kong's animosity and beating of the refs against her. Amazing stuff.

The Ultimate X match featuring Team 3-D and Black Machismo was some good fun. I swear that Team 3-D's partner, Johnny Devine, broke his neck at least three times during the match. I have no clue how he took those bumps. It's unfortunate that the spot where he was supposed to fly off of a ladder and break tables didn't work out. The poor guy slid right off the tables.

AJ Styles chose siding with Kurt Angle (after an amazing match with Tomko defending their Tag titles) and causing Christian to lose the championship match. I bet these two will hook up in a couple PPV's down the road for one more meeting. I think Christian and AJ will be going at it next month at “Against All Odds.”

Over at WWE, the first thing I have to say is that I HATE JBL! I can't stand him in any way, shape or form. I'm also pissed that he's now on Raw. His segment where he took it to Y2J made me despise him even more (and I know that's a good thing for someone working as a heel). I'm almost positive the guy is an ass in real life.

Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga in the steel cage was an amazing match and it's already being said that this one will be in people's top matches at the end of the year. Both these guys showed that they can work the main event. Jeff's backwards flip from the top of the cage onto Umaga was one of the craziest things I've ever seen. I've watched the footage over and over in total disbelief over how someone is gutsy enough to do that and how he didn't kill himself.

Triple H being taken out of the Rumble match by William Regal was totally surprising. Yes, HHH got some revenge this week, but now I'm curious to see what his role in two weeks at the PPV will be.

Edge vs. Mr. 619 will probably be worth the dough to order the PPV, and it's cool that they've pulled this feud out of nowhere as well. With two weeks left until the Rumble, the WWE is on a role with three awesome Raw's in a row (not counting the Troops episode). Wrestling is looking hot with both companies already this year. Considering that 2007 was such a bland year, these excellent programs and the PPV is getting my hopes up for an amazing 2008.

On a side note, I picked up “The Best of Raw” DVD set and am getting through that so a review will be up soon. So far, the set is pretty good!
