Show's all about Sex

The Western Fair Grounds welcomed a new kind of entertainment on October 3, 4 and 5 with “The Everything to Do with Sex Show.” The red carpet was out, sex toy and other kinky booths lined either side of the building, just waiting to be discovered by curious adults wanting to explore their sexuality.

The three day weekend was jam packed with seminars and exhibitions covering everything from romance, sensuality, and self improvement. The crowd was engaged with different contests like the amateur pole dance, fake orgasm, sex positions and a fashion show.

Partially naked women walked around, enticing the crowd and some of them were even body painted as the box office's favourite superheroes. Iron Man anyone?

“It's a growing city with a strong student population” Mikey Singer, show manager said. “We are all really about the education...When was the last time you had a sex class? They're definitely not teaching you about G spots and P spots.”

Sex Educator Kelly Garland with Libido Talk came out to the show to help educate the London community. Garland said in North America sex education is lacking, which is unfortunate.

“A lot of people have a lot of questions and they're too timid to ask their doctor. A lot of doctors don't have their sex education. So, it's really important,” she said.

Garland holds public workshops, couples counselling, and hosts a show on Rogers television. Garland said holding workshops in your own home can help and it's fun to get a group of friends together and learn.

“People don't like to admit they don't know everything about sex yet, we're not taught everything about sex,” she explained. “So, it makes sense we wouldn't know everything about sex.”

Garland's workshops are all about information and Q&A sessions. One hot topic that comes across in these workshops is lubricant because there is a vast amount of lubricants on the market but a lot of them have sugar content, which is not so great for sex. This is the first year the Everything to Do with Sex Show has come to London.

“It's about time London came out of the closet as a city that has sex!” Garland said.

Despite the support from the majority of the community and the general success of the sex show this weekend, the show may have broken the adult entertainment licensing and zoning bylaws, which limit where stripping, body rubbing and other sexual entertainment activities can take place. This means the Everything to Do with Sex Show could trigger some charges, depending how far city bylaw officers take their case.

In the infamous words of Salt N' Peppa, let's talk about sex, baby! Unfortunately, it looks like some of the community, or at least its politicians, are just not ready.
