Fun and Fitness: What a racket at Fitness 101
One of the keys to keeping racket sports exciting is to find someone who is of a similar level to you. Beating down on someone who isn't very good isn't much fun. Getting crushed by a squash god isn't very encouraging either. Playing a friend of similar ability maintains a solid rallying experience, while keeping it fun and competitive. It also provides a great alternative for cardio exercise from the monotonous treadmill.
Students can play by bringing their student cards to the front desk of the J-Building. We'll set you up on a first come first serve basis for 45-minute time slots. However, if there isn't a wait for players looking to get on a court, feel free to play as long as you like. Players need to bring their own rackets as we don't have any loaners. We do have balls for purchase if need be, and we also provide goggle protection as it is mandatory at Fanshawe. Many sports stores carry inexpensive rackets for those looking to get involved.
Best of all we run squash leagues throughout the year followed by semester end tournaments. We categorize matches based on player levels ranging from beginner, intermediate and advanced. The fall squash league runs from September 28 — October 26. Games are held on Mondays between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. to accommodate school schedules. The registration deadline is September 24, and the fee is $10, which covers the semester end tournament food and prizes.
