Disney's A Christmas Carol no kids movie

It's holiday time again. Time to be thankful for the things that money can't buy. After all, isn't that the meaning of the holiday season? In the commercialized society we live in today Charles Dicken's story A Christmas Carol, brought to life on the big screen in Disney's A Christmas Carol, is just what we all need to be reminded of the true meaning of the holidays. Through this haunting classic, all men and women can appreciate the rewards of giving throughout the holidays and the consequences that could occur from greed.

Jim Carrey shines as the miserable and greedy Ebenezer Scrooge who learns to change the way he lives over a terrifying Christmas Eve. Although the age-old tale hasn't changed at all, watching the story brought to life in 3D makes you feel like you're experiencing it for the first time. Director Robert Zemeckis brought astounding visuals to the screen that created an exciting experience for the audience; some parts reminiscent of a rollercoaster ride.

A Christmas Carol

Don't let the fact that this is an animated film fool you, this is no kid's movie. The movie stayed close to Dicken's original intention of writing a ghost story based around Christmas with humour entwined. Some parts are frightening and would probably trigger tears from a child rather than teaching them life lessons. It's a great film for an older audience and those who understand the theme.

The graphics were so detailed and lit like a Hollywood film with real human beings that it was sometimes easy to forget that the movie was animated. The three spirits of Christmas stray slightly from what most have seen but it makes the story that much more exciting. Some may be disappointed with the fact that there wasn't as much emphasis on deep emotions. Tiny Tim's disabilities and the poor people struggling to feed their families at Christmas were minor themes in comparison to what Scrooge was going through but Zemeckis went with a much more fast-paced and exciting tone.

Of course with Carrey leading the cast there was no lack of comedy. His personality came through in Scrooge and had everyone laughing out loud. The film was an adventure, not only for Scrooge but for everyone watching. Definitely head to theatres to see Disney's version of A Christmas Carol and get into the Christmas spirit. Remember the importance of family and friends at this time of year and have a wonderful holiday season.
