Fun and Fitness: Mr. Olympia crowned

Another September has passed and so has another Olympia. The funniest part is 99.9 per cent of readers don't know it even happened. This is only natural, considering that same 99.9 per cent have no desire to get as big as those monstrous bodybuilding professionals. These particular professionals have to deal with some of the worst stereotypes and accusations of any professional sportsmen. Are the accusations of steroid use true? Absolutely. No human being can possibly get as big as these guys without performanceenhancing drugs. However, the ignorant ones believe steroids are magical and create the muscle and strength. They provide the enhanced window of opportunity, but without the extreme hard work and dedication, they are useless.

The September 24 to 25 Mr. Olympia hosted a fantastic line-up of individuals who possessed this hard work ethic and it showed! This year's contest only had two previous Olympia champions, which included Dexter Jackson (2008) and Jay Cutler (2006, 2007, 2009). It would be interesting to see what kind of form these two would bring to 2010. Better yet, one should never count out the upand- comers looking to hold up the Sandow statue!

Jackson came out with the fine form that he has been known to consistently bring. There is a reason he is called "The Blade" and it is because the man is CUT! Being one of the smaller competitors, Jackson has a physique that's reminiscent of the older days of bodybuilding which people tend to find more aesthetic. This fantastic look was so good that it got him the 2008 championship, making many believe the judging committee was steering away from giving the trophy to absolute mass monsters. This theory was quickly debunked in 2009 when a massive AND cut Cutler won without question. The judging committee could not deny how impressive he was. The question was whether or not Cutler could bring that similar form in 2010 since he has been known to show inconsistencies.

Well Cutler came out and did he ever look good. So good that it appeared he had it on lockdown. Then Phil Heath who placed fifth in 2009 came out. He clearly wasn't aiming for fifth place, again considering the lean condition he showed and an ultra-tiny waste to compliment his great size. Branch Warren also came in similar to his 2009 second place condition. This made for an unpredictable top two placing.

Fourth place went to Jackson. Although great as he always was, the other three gentlemen brought impressive size and definition to their physiques that deserved the gold, silver and bronze. Warren was awarded with the bronze and left it for a climatic final between Cutler and Heath. After a weekend full of pre-judging, night time posing routines and the ever-popular flex-off, the judges saw fit that Cutler be crowned as 2010 Mr. Olympia. One thing is for sure, if Heath keeps this up, he may need to make room for future Sandow trophies in his living room.
