The Fanshawe Falcons crosscountry team capped their season in style by not only defending their Ontario Colleges Athletic Association championship titles, but by doing so in dominating fashion.

Liliane Sparkes defended her individual title in a stellar time of 18:53. She helped position the Fanshawe women for another Ontario team title, as Falcons teammates Erika Houde-Pearce, Melissa Linker and Deb Buhlers all finished within 30 seconds of each other to give Fanshawe four spots in the top five. Tineke deJong also ran a strong race to finish in the top 20.

Head coach John Loney admitted that this year's edition of the team is the strongest he has seen, so he is not entirely surprised by the results.

The women weren't the only champions on Saturday as the men were able to defend their Ontario championship as well, which added a fourth title in six seasons. The men were anchored by second-place overall finisher Clint Smith who crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 26:14, only 13 seconds behind the overall winner from Conestoga. Loney was not surprised Smith's strong finish, explaining he knew Smith would be in the lead pack. Smith led the way for the Falcons who had strong top 10 finishes from Biemnet Yemane in seventh, Daniel Bright in eighth and Sean Coleshill in tenth, while Josh Lumani had a good rac' finishing in eleventh place.

With the Ontario championships in their rear, the Falcons now prepare for the national championships in Fredericton. Both teams will look to add to the Fanshawe Falcons crosscountry dynasty when the women look for a third straight national title, while the men will attempt to defend their national title from one year ago.
