Nominations open for FSU Executive Council 2007

In addition to the buzz surrounding the federal election floating around the country these days, Fanshawe students should also have another election on their minds. The FSU executive election is just around the corner.

Nominations are now being accepted for the positions President of Fanshawe Student Union, Vice President Finance, Vice President External and Academic Affairs, Vice President Internal Affairs, Vice President Entertainment and Vice President Athletics.

Candidates for any one of these positions must be a full-time post-secondary, non co-op Fanshawe student and must pass a minimum of four credit courses in their most recent semester.

Prospective candidates must collect at least 20 nomination signatures from full-time post-secondary Fanshawe students in order to be considered a candidate in the election for any one of the positions, and nominations must be submitted to the FSU be January 30.

Candidates, excluding presidential, must be a returning student for the 2006/2007 academic year and all elected officials will take office from May 1, 2006 to April 30, 2007.

The FSU President is recognized as the Chief Executive Officer of the Student Union, whose responsiblities include signing all Student Union by-laws, contracts and documents, as well as representing the union on all suitable occasions. The position is full-time and salary-based.

Campaigning for the election will begin on February 1, at 5pm and will end on February 14th, at which time all campaign posters and propaganda must be removed from the school.

Each candidate has the opportunity to have his or her picture and brief bio/election comment appear in the Interrobang, but copy must be submitted to FSU publications office SC1012 by February 6 at 4pm.

Students can cast their vote online through their FanshaweOnline account and there will also be online polling stations set up at the Tim Horton's junction, outside the library and in D Cafeteria from 10am-3pm on February 13-16, 2006.

Fanshawe Student Union is a non-profit corporation, which represents the entire full-time and part-time post-secondary student body of the college.

The winners of the election will be announced on Thursday, February 17, 2006 at the FSU office and in the Interrobang the following day.
