February 14 to 18 is Diversity Week on campus. Veronica Barahona, VP internal, said that the week is meant to promote tolerance and open-mindedness about the different cultures, religions and ideas held by students on campus.

"It's about having respect for everyone, and not being so closedminded," she said. "You may not have the same interests or values (as every other student) ... but remember to be kind."

On February 18 and 19, volunteers will be handing out buttons and t-shirts promoting respect around the campus.

The highlight of the week comes on February 16, when Emmanuel Jal performs on campus at 8 p.m. in Forwell Hall. "He will be speaking about his experiences as a child soldier in Sudan and sharing his inspiring poetry," explained Pat Maloney, entertainment programmer for the FSU. Jal will also perform his music, a blend of Afrobeat, hip-hop and soul. There is no cover charge for this event. For more information about Emmanuel Jal, visit emmanueljal.com.
