Trade talks to heat up

Tyler Revoy | Interrobang | Sports | February 14th, 2011

With the trade deadline set for February 28, talks are growing more intense. Teams that are projected to be sellers include Toronto, Ottawa, New Jersey, the New York Islanders and Columbus. The teams looking to buy are San Jose, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Calgary and Vancouver. All in all, this year's trade deadline day will be no different: we should see a lot of big names being traded.

We saw a good week of hockey last week with a few close games as well as some blowouts. The teams that are rolling along continued that way, and those struggling stayed in the basement. The Toronto Maple Leafs have won three of four games and the Calgary Flames have won six of seven games, and both teams are looking to sneak into the playoffs.

The third star of last week was former Knight and current Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry. He registered three goals and two assists. The second star is Vancouver Canuck Mikael Samuelsson, who scored two goals and four assists. The first star is — no surprise here — Detroit Red Wings forward Johan Franzen, who netted five goals in one game against the Ottawa Senators.

My three games to watch:
Toronto and Montreal - Rivalry games never seem to disappoint. With a rich history like these two teams have, look for a low-scoring tight checking game. It will be a battle of the goalies.
Toronto 4-2

Calgary and Vancouver - Something's got to give when these two streaking teams play. It may become a rout for the home team.
Vancouver 5-1

Toronto and Boston - It's Phil Kessel vs. Tyler Seguin in a battle for a position in the tight North East division. If Kessel scores, it will be all Leafs.
Toronto 4-0
