String of gun incidents surrounding Fanshawe and Western campuses

Guns are not only becoming more prevalent throughout London's crime scene, but the deadly weapons are making there way near and on Fanshawe and Western's campuses.

Recently, the Convenience Mini Mart at Culver Drive and Third Street, just blocks away from Fanshawe's campus and a popular destination for many students, was the scene of an attempted robbery and gun crime.

On Saturday night of Easter weekend, a man pointed a rifle at another man walking to his vehicle and demanded cash in the parking lot of the convenience store. The victim acknowledged a nearby police cruiser and the attempted robber fled on foot without the loot.

According to London Police, the investigating officer heard a single gun shot when searching for the suspect.

The robbery victim was uninjured and the police were unable to locate the suspect, the source or target of the discharged weapon.

Police are continuing their investigation of two suspects, one of which is male, 5'8 and was wearing a toque and jacket.

Just three months ago a man was shot in the leg in the Mac's convenience store parking lot on the corner of First and Oxford streets, right across the street from Fanshawe College.

Paramedics were called to the scene and the victim was treated at a London hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In this separate incident, Police said a dog belonging to the victim was also shot and found dead at the scene of the incident.

On the other side of the city, The University of Western Ontario has also seen a rash of gun-related incidents in the past month.

Police are tracking down three males after a string of robberies between April 3 and 5, where a gun was used to intimidate victims.

In three incidents, both on and surrounding Western's campus, the bandits made off with a wallet, cash, a laptop and personal belongings. None of the victims were injured.

Just days after the first string of robberies, Police arrested a man at Westminster College after a search wielded a concealed, loaded gun along with over $400 worth of ecstasy, crack cocaine and marijuana.

Although not a Western student, John Moore, 22, was officially signed into the Westminster residence before he was arrested. Campus security was called when Moore was causing problems.

Initially arrested for mischief, after the weapon and drugs were found Moore's charges were upgraded to possession of ecstasy for purpose of trafficking, possession of crack-cocaine and marijuana and several weapons offenses.
