A years-long family feud has seemingly come to an end, as Oasis announce their reunion after 15 years.

What's the story? It's not morning glory, but for fans of 90s rock, the news is big. The iconic and storied Britpop group Oasis recently shocked the world by announcing a surprise UK tour slated for next summer.

The news was first teased in late August, when a short teaser trailer was posted on the band's official X (formerly Twitter) account, showing an announcement date for the morning of Aug. 27 at 8 a.m. This had many fans speculating that it was for a special 30th anniversary edition of their record-breaking album Definitely Maybe.

But all the buzz surrounding the supposed anniversary album was shot down when frontman, Liam Gallagher, posted a photo of his brother, Noel on his own personal X account captioned: The guns have fallen silent, the stars have aligned, the great wait is over. See. It will not be televised.

At the same time the photo of both Gallaghers was posted, a longer trailer was uploaded to the band's X account, showcasing a montage of past Oasis performances before showing dates in cities across the UK and Ireland.

Soon after the dates of the UK shows were announced, an alleged leaked document detailed the band also announcing shows in North America, with the tour kicking off in Toronto at Downsview Park on Aug. 25, 2025. Other American cities named in the list were Boston, New York, and Chicago.

Fanshawe alumnus Finch Neves, who is a fan of Oasis, was surprised to hear about the return but felt indifferent.

“I have always enjoyed Oasis and thought it was a shame that the two couldn't set apart their differences,” he said. “Hopefully, they can pick up where they left off and continue a legacy, but honestly, I think that the rock scene has just changed too much. I'm not sure they will be able to carve a new spot for themselves as much as continue on their prior success.”

More rumours and speculation of what's to come in the distant future after the tour have many hoping for a new Oasis album. But as times have changed since the band's last time together, Neves had some concerns about the band's ability to recreate the same hype they once had.

“I would expect a couple of new songs or even an EP that will not be received super well after some original hype has died down. After that, I think infighting will begin again and they will split. The world of music just isn't the same as it was before,” said Neves.

The band split up in 2009 due to constant fighting between Noel and Liam, which lasted for several years. On the Norwegian talk show, Skalvan, Noel Gallagher recounted the last straw for him was a massive blowout he had with Liam in a dressing room before headlining a massive festival. He said that after regaining his composure in the back of a car, he chose to leave the venue with 70,000 people in attendance.

As years passed and the music of Oasis grew to find newer generations, many artists have praised the legacy and impact that Oasis left on the world. Last year, The 1975 frontman Matty Healy went viral for statements he made on the CBC podcast Q with Tom Power, wherein he made an impassioned plea for the brothers to reconcile their differences and get Oasis back together.

“What are Oasis doing? Can you imagine being in potentially the biggest band in the world and not doing it because you are in a mard with your brother? Their first two albums are arguably in the 10 top best albums of all time…grow up and have a good time,” said Healy.

At this current moment, all we know is that the Gallagher brothers are set to return to the limelight, with silence from the other members of the band. Former drummer, Alan White, posted to his personal Instagram a photo of a drum set with a similar noir filter that was used on the Gallagher brothers’ posts, making many speculate largely about his return. Rumours are also pointing to conversations with rhythm guitarist, Gem Arthur.

With fans hoping for the brothers to have finally let their feud slide away and not look back in anger, they can put the fantasy of a reunion to rest with it finally now being a reality.
