Fun and Fitness: Glide your way to fun and fitness

Rick Melo | Interrobang | Sports | February 14th, 2011

There is a new type of aerobics class that has been making waves in the fitness industry over the last several years. It involves using gliders and it will kick your ass! Glider classes are now available at Fitness 101 for the first time since it opened over a decade ago.

The idea is simple: use slippery glider discs underneath your feet or hands to create movements that allow you to train your entire body. To give you an idea of what I mean, imagine you are the late, great Michael Jackson and you have the ability to moonwalk with gliders underneath your feet. From there, the possibilities are endless!

Glider classes focus on increasing your range of motion by utilizing controlled dynamic movements. Expect the majority of the class to consistently target your inner and outer thighs, as well as your abdominals and glutes. For these reasons alone, you can get a sense of why such classes are a hit with the female base.

A typical one-hour glider class may involve 15 minutes of cardio and 45 minutes of focused muscle work. Expect several intense movement series including squat, lunge, hamstring, upper body and abdominal series.

The idea of gliding classes is simple, but at the same time it is very different from your standard class and provides an intense work out due to its unique combination of movements. People who have reached a plateau in similar training programs may want to check this class out, as it'll challenge your entire body in new ways you have yet to experience.

Tone, firm and sculpt your muscles through smooth and graceful movements using fun gliding discs. I guarantee that you will achieve a new level of soreness like you did on that very first day you ever trained.
